Our family looks for the following qualities in a vacation spot: Something unique about the location A zoo or aquarium is usually a requirement Outdoor activities Indoor activities to beat the heat of summer Theme park with roller coasters is a plus Wisconsin Dells Wisconsin Dells located in Wisconsin is located not too far from Chicago and has been dubbed the indoor water park capital of the world. Our 2020 Brocation Every year my 3 sons and myself set out for an annual brocation. Typically my wife has to work right before school starts so the boys and I go on a short vacation with just the guys (hence the term brocation). For the brocation we try to keep it cheap, we drive in a cost efficient car to save gas, we brown bag breakfast and lunch when possible, try to do outdoor locations that are free or inexpensive, and stay in cheaper hotels or camp out. In recent years my oldest son is working a job that he doesn’t get a lot of time off so we have been traveling to his house and making his house the brocation base. This year we just traveled a few hours from his house to the south/southeast part of Kentucky in the Cumberland region. Cumberland Falls Our brocation started just…

Hematite Lake Trail at Land Between the Lakes Living close to the Land Between the Lakes we like to head out and hike the trails and take in some fishing at Kentucky Lake. When we arrived you could tell it is already becoming a popular site for hikers and visitors. The parking lot was full and people coming and going. The trail is an easy hike and is a short distance of 2.25 miles. There are a few benches to sit and rest but don’t count on finding a lot of resting spots. The weather that day was good for mid-February so a lot of people were out trying to take advantage of the weather.…

Family Fun at Beggs Family Farm Took the family on a quick day trip this weekend. We went to Beggs Family Farm in a small town of Blodgett MO right outside of Sikeston MO. Had a great time and the weather was beautiful. It amazes me at the ingenuity of the owners use of everyday farm equipment to make playgrounds for so many kids. They also have a corn maze and rides out to a pumpkin field to pick your own pumpkin. We chose to skip the ride to the pumpkin field to go eat at Lambert’s Cafe. Not missing the chance to have some good cooking and a few rolls tossed at my head. Looking at how they reuse farm items and equipment to make playgrounds just reminds me of how kids can see anything and make it a play thing. A stick, rock, vine, or cardboard box become…
