If you haven’t figured it out yet, I write a lot of articles about pizza. I love pizza and it is one of the few foods that I could eat almost daily and not get tired of eating it. Several years ago I saw someone share a Facebook post for Ace’s Chicago Pizza in Mayfield, KY. The pizza looked to be a deep dish, but different. I researched a bit and saw they had some excellent reviews so for my birthday, I decided that my family and I would eat there.
We showed up and noticed reservations were needed that evening. What I didn’t know was that they had a live event, and reservations were required for the event. Fortunately, we were early, and they gave us a table because we would be done eating well before the event started.
The pizza and service were amazing, and ever since, Ace’s has been one of our go-to pizza restaurants.
Service
Service is always great. They don’t seem to employ a lot of waitresses but the ones that are there are always nice and always attentive. They give the kids some raw dough to play with and it is one of the highlights for my little ones to keep them busy while we wait for food.
The restaurant itself in the evenings is not too busy unless they have an event going on. So getting a table is normally not an issue but if you have concerns, check their Facebook page to see if they have a live music or comedy event that might cause them to be busier than usual.
Also, they offer a buffet sometimes at lunch. I have never tried the buffet but would recommend giving it a shot based on how good their pizza is.
Appetizers
Most of the appetizers I have had are top-notch. Mozzarella sticks, garlic bread, and garlic cheese bread are all great choices. But our favorite is the buffet bread. It may not be on their menu but if you say you want buffet bread, they will know what you mean. It is basically a cheesy Parmesan garlic pizza, very similar to what Papa John’s calls their cheesesticks.
Pizzas
At Ace’s Chicago Pizza they offer two different options for the type of pizza you can order. You have your traditional crust which is thinner (but not crispy) and they offer a Stuffed Pizza.
I have had several different versions of their traditional crust pizza and my favorite is their taco pizza.
If I had to choose, I would choose the stuffed pizza every day of the week. The only caveat is that they take a lot longer to cook. If you know you want a stuffed pizza, then order it as soon as your waitress shows up so they can start on it right away.
The stuffed pizza is loosely based on a Chicago-style pizza. It has layers of crust, cheese, toppings, and the sauce is generally on top. One time I asked if they could do a “stuffed” taco pizza and they said sure we could try it. And it was FANTASTIC! In fact, every time we go in now the waitress asks if I want one again.
