Woodfire Pizza Kitchen in Martin TN

Spread the love

My family and I made a quick trip to look at Christmas lights in Martin TN, and we decided to eat at Woodfire Pizza Kitchen. I love pizza, and it is one of the few foods that I could eat almost daily and not get tired of it.

For our trip, I searched Google for some good restaurants, and a new spot in Martin, Tennessee, called Woodfire Pizza Kitchen, was at the top of Yelp reviews. The photos of those wood-fired pies with that perfect char looked incredible, and the reviews were raving about the southern twists on classic pizzas. I did a little digging and saw they were in a cool historic downtown building with an arcade upstairs—perfect for the family. So, we decided to give it a try while we were in Martin TN.

We pulled up to the restored building on Lindell Street, and right away the vibe was spot on—industrial charm mixed with vintage touches, and you could see the wood-fired oven glowing from the dining room. We got seated quickly, but it was about 4:45 pm so the supper rush had not kicked in.

The pizza and atmosphere were fantastic, and Woodfire Pizza Kitchen might be on our short list of places to eat in Martin TN.

Service

Service is friendly and on point. The staff seems genuinely excited about the food, and they’re great with families—quick to engage with the kids and always on top of refills. The place has a relaxed college-town feel (Martin is home to UT Martin, after all), but it’s welcoming for all ages. Upstairs, there’s “The Level Up” arcade with retro games and pinball but we actually didn’t have time to test anything out.

Appetizers

We’ve tried a few starters, and they’re all solid with that southern-Italian flair. The Fire’d Up Cheese & Garlic Knots are a must—homemade dough knots loaded with mozzarella, although I was disappointed by the size of the appetizer.

We also tried the Chicken Fried Mozz. Basically, a glob of mozzarella deep-fried and served with some marinara. There were only 2 included in this dish, and honestly, the flavoring was missing.

Woodfire Pizzas

Woodfire specializes in New York-style wood-fired pizzas with a southern twist, baked in that big oven you can watch from afar. The crust gets that perfect leopard-spot char—crispy, chewy, and smoky without being burnt.

We’ve tried several, and everything has been top-notch. My current favorite is the Three Little Pigs —country ham, sausage, slab bacon. Pure meaty goodness.

The one I had to order and caught my attention was the Jo’s Chicken Pot Pie Pizza. Yes, it is exactly what you think a Chicken Pot Pie in pizza form. The taste was fantastic and tasted just like a chicken pot pie. Although it did not do so well the next day. My other complaint was they use fried chicken tenders and the chicken tends to burn in the oven.

We also got the little ones a cheese pizza, and my son got the My Aunt Lou-Shele, which is a pizza with several different types of toppings.

They also brew their own beers downstairs (Mar-Tenn Made), which pair great if you’re into that. Since I was driving, I wasn’t able to partake in drinks.

If I were to give them a rating, it would probably be like a 4.2 out of 5. Maybe a little higher if the appetizers were not so small. The pizza held up well for the next day test. It tasted really good for leftover pizza.
